Alabama Theater in Myrtle Beach SC
The Alabama Theatre is a music venue built in North Myrtle Beach and named after the Alabama Band, a country music group that got their start in Myrtle Beach and wanted to set up an entertainment venue on the Grand Strand. You can view the Alabama Band's web site here if you're interested in that group - but while the theater is named after them, it mainly hosts either celebrity musicians doing concerts there or its own regular show called "One: The Show."
As far as the celebrity concerts themselves, the quality is going to depend on the person doing it and what kind of crew they've got running it. You can see a list of upcoming concerts at the Alabama Theatre's official page here.
The Alabama Theatre, located in Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, is a state-of-the-art venue that presents a gala variety show which appeals to both young and old audience members. Most of the shows at this theater include a mixture of singing, dance, and comedy and, each year, more than 50 percent of the show changes. That means those who return year after year are treated to a new theatrical experience each time they visit. Literally dozens of performers take the stage at any one time and offer an eclectic variety of music including not only country but also Broadway, gospel, bluegrass, and more. Performers come from all walks of life and all parts of the country and are trained by the best in the field from the stages of Nashville, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
Shows at The Alabama Theatre are offered throughout the year with more performances to choose from during the peak tourist months of late April through the early fall. During the winter months, including January through March, shows are mostly limited to Friday and Saturday evenings. The theater is quite large and patrons may choose from three different ticket levels, making an excursion to the theater an affordable proposition, even for families visiting the area. Tickets may be purchased in advance or on the day of the show, but during busy times of the year, advance purchase is strongly suggested.
The Alabama Theatre also offers a gala Christmas show each year, which begins in early November and continues until right after the New Year. The show, entitled “The South’s Grandest Christmas Show,” combines classic and traditional holiday music with contemporary offerings, providing a Christmas extravaganza for the whole family. Excellent dancing, singing, and special effects make it extra enjoyable. The show runs nightly with a few extra matinees on the weekends and on New Year’s Eve.
Also on the itinerary at The Alabama Theatre are guest
concerts that occur throughout the year. Recent and upcoming guests at the
theater have included the Oak Ridge Boys, George Jones, The Temptations, The
Drifters, The Platters, and Ray Stevens. Most of these concerts usually
include just a single appearance by the artist, sometimes two shows. Tickets
sell out quickly for well-known names.
One: The Show is a recurring show that just started playing there this February. Most of the music is American in origin - gospel, country, bluegrass, motown, patriotic music, and broadway are all featured. They've also got comedy and dancing, as well as a number of featured singers (not big-time celebrities, but good nonetheless). They've got a list of all the performers here. It's a country-type venue, but the music is pretty diverse, the comedian is a southerner who tells a lot of "redneck" type jokes, and it should be enjoyable even if you're not really a fan of country.
