The South Carolina coast is dotted with little fishing piers, and one of the better ones located in North Myrtle Beach is the Cherry Grove Pier. It was originally built in the 1950's, and is a 1000 foot long pier that has been the site of a number of record catches, including an 1,800 pound tiger shark. Buildings have continually been added to the pier, so that now it has a tackle shop, a restaurant, and a 2-story observation deck where people can go and get a great view of the ocean.
There are a number of different fish in the area, including mackarel, bluefish, pompano, and angelfish. A lot of people go crabbing at the pier as well. You can pretty much buy any equipment you need there at the tackle shop, but you'll save money by just bringing it yourself. They're open from Thursday through Sunday, and a fishing pass is $8, a walking pass is $1.
