Freestyle Music Park in Myrtle Beach
One of Myrtle Beach’s newest theme parks, Freestyle Music Park is designed especially for the music lover who enjoys combining their love of great melodies and rhythm with an exciting amusement park adventure. Originally opened in April 2008 as Hard Rock Park, the attraction closed due to financial constraints at the end of the summer, despite rave reviews from amusement park and travel critics, and reopened in May 2009 with a new name and under new ownership. At that point, the park became more family-oriented and enjoyed a profitable first season.
Freestyle Music Park, according to its mission
statement, strives to pay homage to a variety of music styles through its
rides, shows, and other attractions, including
rock n' roll, country, reggae,
beach music, pop, R&B, alternative, Christian, and disco. Currently, the
park is divided into fours areas with attractions in each that reflect a
particular theme. They include Country USA, Kids in America, Across the
Pond, and Myrtle’s Beach. There’s also an entrance area known as VIP Plaza.
In Country
USA, guests can ride the Iron Horse Coaster, the Texas Swings, and the Big ‘Ol
Trucks, or enjoy the Ice Cold Country Show, a unique musical production
that’s performed totally on ice, featuring top-notch skaters and singers
that perform the best in country music. Restaurants in the area include a
smokehouse and a Mexican café. In Kids in America, there are nearly a dozen
rides designed for little ones, but several can be enjoyed by adults as
well. They range from a classic train ride to a hang glider ride to a “state
park” that includes a climbing wall and ropes courses. Guests can eat at an
old-fashioned drive-in-style diner or grab a bite at the ice cream shop
before heading to the Flip 5 rock ‘n roll show.
At
Myrtle’s Beach, you’ll find the park’s signature 150-foot-high roller
coaster that includes six inversions and reaches speeds up to 65 mph. Also
in this area is a wet attraction known as Polly Nesian’s Splash Bash, a
great place for everyone to cool off. Nearby, guests can attend Adrenaline
Rush, a high-energy competition-type show, or enjoy a bite at the local
burger or pizza joint. At Across the Pond, a nod to the UK, the rides range
from a carousel to a Wild Mouse to a brightly colored bounce house for the
little ones. Here, visitors won’t want to miss the CSI: Live show, an
interactive production that takes guests on a trip through the fascinating
world of crime scene investigation.
You can also dine at a Scottish pub, visit the Penny Lane Café for
fish and chips, or head to the Strawberry Fields and Cream for an enticing
confection.
Throughout
the park, there are plenty of places to do some shopping and pick up a few
souvenirs. There’s also a midway area with lots of games for all ages to
enjoy.
Freestyle
Music Park is open during the summer, from the weekend before Memorial Day
until Labor Day. Tickets include access to all the rides and can be
purchased at the gate or in advance via the internet.
