Ghosts and Legends Show in Myrtle Beach

The Ghosts and Legends Theater is host to a sort of ghost story evening show, complete with special effects, spooky lighting, and props used to tell local ghost stories. They range from stories about pirates like Blackbeard, ghost ships, and local monsters such as the Boo-Hag (a Gullah superstition about a monster that is sort of like a vampire, killing people and living in their skin disguised as a person, then sucking the energy out of the living).

There are a couple of different shows at the theater:

The Ghost Show - This is the highlight of the place, a show with special effects and actors playing the ghosts, taking place inside the theater itself. It's family-friendly, so you probably don't have to worry about the kids wetting their beds - it's scary, but not that scary. Tickets are $8 and they've got shows going on throughout the day.

The Ghost Walk - This one is more like a regular walking tour. You go around the area and your guide tells you about the local spooks. You have to get separate tickets for it, and they cost about $16. They generally have them once a day in the evenings, but you should call and reserve a slot beforehand because they frequently run out.

The Blackbeard Seance - This is a special event sort of thing that you have to schedule in advance. You have to have a group of 6-10 people, and it is for adults, not kids. They basically hold a seance with your group after the regular theater shows close. It's more expensive - about $45 each, but it's a unique and scary experience of "summoning spirits" that will show you a firsthand example of the seance trend that was extremely popular at the turn of the century as a way to try to contact the dead.

The address of the Ghosts and Legends Theatre is:

4818 Highway 17 S

North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582

You should check out their official website as well here. It's got pictures of the shows, along with specific directions on how to get there. There are coupons to save you a little bit of money if you print them out here.
