Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina

This is a 2500 acre state park that has a well-maintained beach and a number of diverse animal habitats, including saltmarshes, maritime forests, and lagoons and other waterways. The park has several sightseeing opportunities.

First, you can go check out the home of Anna Hyatt Huntington, a famous American sculptress who founded the Brookgreen Gardens. It's called the Atalaya castle, and was her winter home.

Second, they have an annual art festival called the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival, which has a number of different works of art on display to be judged for awards. They've got music, seafood, and lots to do. It takes place in September, and you can view the festival's website here for exact dates and information if you're interested.

Third, it is a well-known birdwatching spot, home to over 300 species of birds. South Carolina has quite a few because of the ocean ecosystems and the nearby salt marshes that have some interesting wildlife, and this is a good place to try to catch a glimpse.

Fourth, you can go camping here and enjoy the beach. They let you go fishing, boating, and have picnic areas set up, so it's a good national park to check out if you're interested in any outdoor activities.

The state of South Carolina has an official web page sponsored by their parks department up here for the Huntington Beach State Park. It's got maps, directions, and some more details on the cost of activities as well as what you need to do to go out there.
