Imax Theatre in Myrtle Beach

An IMAX is basically a big, tilted movie theater that is positioned so that no one has the heads of the people in front of them in their way. It can feel sort of weird to watch from the highest seats, and can induce the feeling of movement (which is part of the intended effect and used in many of the movies).

IMAX shows mostly films that have some educational value. You're not going to go watch Batman or something on it - they are things like films about the moonwalk, hurricanes and other natural disasters, a documentary on the grand canyon, and other stuff along those lines. Because of this, it's a popular destination both for school field trips and for parents who want to show their kids something that is educational but not boring and dull. Most of the films there have some amazing footage of whatever subject they're about, and you'd be surprised how exciting some of them can be.

The Myrtle Beach Imax is at Broadway at the Beach, which is a big tourist area and it's easy to pop in there and watch a movie while you're in the area. You don't really have to plan ahead, but you should check the showtimes - their website here has a space for them which is currently empty, so you have to actually call to see what's showing and when.

The IMAX is located at 21st Ave. N & Highway 17 Bypass.

The phone number for the IMAX is: 843-444-3333
