Myrtle Beach Kayaking Info

Another big water sport that is popular among tourists in Myrtle Beach is kayaking, and there are several places where you can rent them from. There are a lot of little inlets and waterways around the area you can go into, and it might be a good idea to get a guided tour if you are completely unfamiliar with the area, just so you can see some more interesting stuff. The local kayak companies have people who know where the egrets, ospreys, and other wildlife are, as well as landmarks and other natural wonders.

Express Water Sports - This is a company in Myrtle Beach that generally rents out stuff for all kinds of water activities, and they've got a kayak business as well. The rental includes everything you need - boat, paddle, and life jacket. You can schedule a guided tour (probably a good idea to call ahead) or just rent them and go out on your own. The rates for a single kayak are $15 an hour, or $40 a half day, or $60 a full day. For a double kayak, it is $20 an hour, $50 a half day, or $75 a full day.

The address is:

4042 Highway 17 Business

Murrells Inlets, SC 29576

1-866-566-9338

Black River Ecoventure Kayak Tours - This one focuses more on guided tours by kayak or canoe that are based on the ecology and wildlife of the area. They take 2-4 hours normally, but you can schedule an all-day trip with them if you want, you just have to call ahead. There's not really a set place that they go on the tours, because tides change around the water levels frequently enough that they have to just go to the places they can depending on the time of year. They regularly tour the Black River Nature preserve, an area with otters, owls, ducks, and more; several salt marsh creeks, a trip by an old southern plantation that is still standing, and moonlight tours through several areas at night. The cost is $55 a person, and you should call several days in advance to schedule it.

The address is:

21 Garden Ave.

Georgetown, SC 29440

843-546-4840

But you will probably meet in a different location depending on where the tour is going.

Coastal Expeditions - This one is a couple hours away from Myrtle Beach in Charleston, but if you're serious about seeing the waterways of South Carolina you should give it a thought. They give half day and full day tours of a number of islands, old plantations, swamps, and river systems in the area, and it is worth the drive if you want to get a good kayak tour in while you're out there - I'd consider this if I were going on a full-day tour, just to get the most out of it.
