Market Common in Myrtle Beach

Unlike any other multi-use complex in Myrtle Beach, The Market Common is an attractive development that includes living, shopping, dining, and entertainment options in a pretty village setting just steps away from the beach.

The 114-acre Market Common sits on a site that was once home to a World War II training and coastal patrol base that was also employed as a front-line United States Air Force base from the 1950s until the early 1990s. When the Air Force Base Redevelopment Authority decided to close the Myrtle Beach location in 1993, a local developer opted to purchase part of the land some 10 years later and turn this prime location into premium living space for local residents and to provide other amenities on site for both residents and visitors to this beach town. Dubbed The Market Common, the complex finally opened in 2005.

At The Market Common, parties interested in living in the area or investing in local real estate can rent a luxury apartment, lease a vacation space, or purchase a beautiful single-family home, all at reasonable prices. At the Residences of the Market Common, managed by Resort Quest, both short- and long-term rentals are available. At  Dock Street Communities, those interested in putting down roots in Myrtle Beach can choose from three types of townhomes as well as single family homes. Among the models available are one-, two-, and three-level townhouses that include up to three bedrooms and multiple baths. Some of the townhomes are live/work models, which allow owners to operate a small business on the first level. Sweetgrass Square single family homes include 2, 3, or 4 bedrooms and range from about 1,200 to 2,300 square feet in size.

If it’s shopping opportunities you seek, The Market Common fits the bill. Currently, there are more than three dozen stores to choose from including both well-known retailers like Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Justice, Chico’s, Coldwater Creek, Victoria’s Secret, Sunglass Hut, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and many others, as well as small locally-owned shops that offer unique products. There’s also a bank on site and a 14-screen cinema. Shops are arranged along a tree-lined avenue and strolling here is quite a pleasant experience, especially in the sunny weather. The stores open at 10 am on most days and close at 8 pm. Hours are shorter on Sundays.

Dining at The Market Common includes about a dozen choices of eateries and food stores, including a convenient Piggly Wiggly supermarket. Choices range from a coffee shop and juice bar to an ice cream parlor, several ethnic restaurants, and a handful of more formal sit-down eateries. Restaurant hours vary from place to place.

From time to time, the management or stores at The Market Common sponsors outdoor concerts and other special events. Concert series are especially popular during the peak tourist months of July and August and are generally free to the public.
