Myrtle Beach Fishing Charters

Fishing in Myrtle Beach is nothing short of fantastic! Both the saltwaters of the Atlantic Ocean and the fresh waters of the inland waterways provide anglers with lots of opportunity to catch a variety of species.

Many individuals and families who live in the Myrtle Beach area have fishing boats of their own, recognizing the almost year-round opportunities to enjoy their favorite sport from the deck of their own vessel. Those traveling to the area can rent boats or book a spot on a fishing excursion, which are quite popular and readily available throughout much of the year.

Myrtle Beach Saltwater Fishing

Many anglers who come to Myrtle Beach to enjoy the fishing choose to head out on the waters of the Atlantic for their fishing expedition. Indeed, the saltwater off the South Carolina coast is ripe with a variety of species and fishermen often come home with quite a healthy catch. Deep sea fishing here is quite exciting because you’ll find a lot of very large fish in these waters. Catching one of those is indeed a thrill for any angler!

What you’ll catch during your ocean excursion will depend on the time of year. May through October is probably the most prolific part of the year as far as types of fish that are available to be caught, but it’s possible to make a good catch just about any time of year. Species in these ocean waters include amberjack, barracuda, cobia, dolphin, grouper, king mackerel, marlin, sailfish, sea bass, shark, snapper, tuna, and wahoo.

Proper licenses are needed for all who wish to go saltwater fishing in Myrtle Beach. Regulations demand that when fishing from a private boat, all individuals age 16 and over must possess a Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Licenses. This includes those harvesting oysters or clams. Also, those age 16 and over will need a license to fish from the surf but not from a pier.

Myrtle Beach Freshwater Fishing

South Carolina also boasts a number of freshwater lakes for fishermen to enjoy. In the Myrtle Beach area, the Waccamaw River, for example, is an excellent place to partake in a few hours of freshwater fishing, especially during the summer months. When conditions are favorable, anglers can expect to catch largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and bream as well as a few other less common species.

As is the case with saltwater fishing, a current South Carolina fishing license is necessary for those 16 years of age and older who wish to freshwater fish.

Charters

There are numerous outfitters throughout the Myrtle Beach area that offer fishing charters for visitors, including both individuals and groups that wish to go fishing together. Generally, charters are available for a half-day or full-day and bait and tackle are provided.

You can also book a fishing excursion that includes a guide, who can lead you to exactly where you need to be to have the best chance of making a catch. The guide can also educate participants about all aspects of fishing in the Myrtle Beach area and help with issues like baiting, casting, and technique.
