Myrtle Beach Nightlife

Though many vacationers head to Myrtle Beach for a family-oriented vacation, an equal number come to this coastal South Carolina town to take advantage of adult-oriented activities, including visiting the many nightclubs and other similar establishments found scattered throughout the town.

For many, a long day at the beach need only be followed by a fun night spent dancing, socializing, and partaking of favorite alcoholic beverages. Others are in search of quality live entertainment, ranging from jazz ensembles to rock bands playing the latest tunes. Indeed, Myrtle Beach has a bit of all these things and can adequately cater to those of a variety of tastes when it comes to after-dinner entertainment. You might even find a place where you can partake in the South Carolina official state dance – the Shag.

There isn’t one particular spot in Myrtle Beach that’s crowded with nightlife options. Rather, these clubs, bars, and restaurants are located at both ends of town and everywhere in between. Some of the larger shopping and entertainment areas, like Broadway at the Beach, boast some very popular nightlife spots. Others are small holes-in-the-wall off-the-beaten-path that offer exactly what some vacationers are seeking – a more placid environmental for intimate conversation and fun. Which you choose will depend on what you enjoy for your night on the town. Here are some popular night spots in Myrtle Beach.

?    Malibu’s Surf Bar – Located at Broadway at the Beach, this fun night spot sports a tropical atmosphere and a very large dance floor. A DJ is always on hand, playing both today’s music as well as oldies. The doors open at 9 pm and this establishment gets very crowded during spring break and peak tourist season.

?    2001 Night Club – Situated on Lake Arrowhead Road, this place is three clubs in one: Funkytown, Razzies, and Club Touch. Funkytown pays homage to disco and the 1970s and screens play video hits of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Razzies is a live music club that features beach bands and R&B groups as well as occasional groups of other genres. Finally, Club Touch plays top 40, mainstream dance, techno, hip-hop, and some classic rock.

?    Crocodile Rocks – Also located at Broadway at the Beach, this is the place for those looking for something a bit more sophisticated than the young adult club scene. Dueling pianos provide the entertainment here and the pianists are not only talented but funny as well. The doors generally open around 7 pm – earlier than most clubs – and the music begins an hour later.

?    Froggy Bottomz – This establishment is reminiscent of a New Orleans club and offers great jazz as well as zydeco and sometimes Top 40 sounds. Entertainment is live and this place is hoppin’ from Wednesdays through Saturdays, especially during the summer.

?    Comedy Cabana – If you like to laugh, you’ll do it here! Hosting many top names on the comedy club circuit, this fun establishment is open Tuesday through Saturday for patrons 18 and older (16 and 17 year olds are admitted with a parent).

?    Studebaker’s – If retro is your thing, this is the place for you. Studebaker’s DJs spin Motown and other old school stuff while the Studebopper dancers entertain patrons.

?    Fat Harold’s Beach Club – Put on your dancing shoes and learn how to do The Shag at this popular beach club in North Myrtle Beach. DJs start the music nightly at about 7 pm, and a few times a week, shag lessons are offered free of charge or at a minimal cost. This is “old” beach music at its finest!
