UPDATE: The Myrtle Beach Pavilion is now closing, so if you plan to go there you should do it while you can. You can read about the decision to close it here and here.
One of the bigger attractions in the area is the Myrtle Beach Pavilion, a large amusement park that is geared towards families. It has a number of different attractions designed for different age groups, and you should be able to find fun stuff to do here for anyone in your family. It's got go-karts, a number of different rides, snacks, a "nightclub" designed for teens, and the general kinds of things that you'd expect in an amusement park. It's gotten some good ratings such as being rated #1 Family Attraction in Myrtle Beach by the Travel Channel.
The pricing structure for the Pavilion is set up so that you can enter for free, but you have to pay to use the various rides. You can either do this with a regular pass or with a "ride ticket" that costs a dollar each, allowing you to use a single ride (but keep in mind that the real cost is from $2.00 to $5.00 per ride because they charge multiple tickets). Unless you're just going in there for a little while, your better bet is probably to get an all-day ride pass. For ages 3-6 and anyone over 54, the cost is $15.00. For ages 7-54, it costs $25.00. The good thing about this pricing structure is that if one of the family members doesn't want to go on the rides, it doesn't cost them to get in. So if you're a parent who is willing to take your kids around and just hang around the park, you can do that for free. Many parents end up doing that anyway, so it can save you a lot of money on your vacation and make this a much cheaper option than usual amusement parks.
There are a few different things here you or your family may want to check out:
The Attic - The attic is billed as an "under-21" nightclub. Essentially, it's a dancing spot designed for teenagers instead of adults - it has a lounge, a balcony overlooking the ocean, and plays music popular with teenagers.
4-D Action Adventure Theater - This combines the usual 3-D technology with trying to make you feel sensations from the movie they show.
The Hydro-Surge - This is a huge whitewater raft ride that takes up a full corner of the park.
The Hurricane Category 5 - A giant roller coaster that goes up to 110 feet high.
There are also a couple of useful resources on their web site that you can check out. There are some specific pages you'll want to see as well. First, check the schedule they have there to make sure it will be open during your trip. They also have a map of the park available.
