What's the difference between Myrtle
Beach and North Myrtle Beach?
The language used in Myrtle Beach can be extremely confusing
directionally. For visitors who aren't familiar with the area, getting
directions can be downright impossible if you don't know the basics - mainly
because of different terms used to describe both nearby cities and areas of
the actual city.
These are, in actuality, two different cities. North Myrtle Beach is about 10
miles north of the actual city. This is mainly a big problem for golf fans,
because there are a lot of different courses that are located in North Myrtle
Beach or nearby. If you're going golfing, make sure you get a rental, because
some of the courses may not be in the actual city of "Myrtle Beach" itself.
But it gets even more complicated, because many people refer to the actual
city as having "North" and "South" areas - so areas north of Ocean Boulevard
are often called "North Myrtle" while areas south of it are called "South
Myrtle." To add to all of this, there is the problem that when many people in
the area say "Myrtle Beach," they're referring to the region in general and
not any specific city. You'll want to be very specific if you're asking for
directions, because you might end up with some serious communications problems
otherwise.
