Springmaid Beach Resort

If you're looking for a place to stay, one of the more popular resorts in Myrtle Beach is called Springmaid Beach. It's a 500 room, self-enclosed resort on the beach. It's especially designed for conferences, and it has a huge conference center available if for some reason you're scheduling one or if you are planning to have a business meeting/vacation.

The resort's beach area is about a quarter mile, and they are near a number of fun activities such as kayaking, jet skis, parasails, and windsurfing. If you're not into that, you can just walk along the beach itself.

They've also got pretty much everything you'd expect from a normal resort. Pools, a fitness center, breakfast, even an art museum across the street.

Springmaid Pier

Another reason to stay here, especially if you like fishing, is the Springmaid Pier. This is free to guests, and it's a 1,000 foot long pier where fishing tournaments are frequently scheduled. They've got their own tackle store nearby if you forget anything. They have a lot of flounder and bluefish caught there. There's an artificial reef made nearby to attract the fish, making it a great location. They've got a gift shop, and it's a great place to catch a sunset as well. It's only $1 for a daily "walking pass" to Springmaid Pier, or $15 if you live nearby and want a monthly one. You can read a little about the Pier in the news here, where it was named the Best Fishing Pier in Myrtle Beach.

Reviews:

Generally, the positives people point to are: that it's inexpensive relative to other resorts, the beach area isn't that crowded most of the time, the parking is great, it's been recently remodeled so everything is pretty new. It also has a great view overlooking the beach.

Negatives: Because it's close to the airport, it can get noisy from the planes flying over it. Some people have reported the maid service as being a little lax if you're there for a long period.

Rates

Rates will vary depending on the time of the year. You can get a pretty good deal in the off-season (in the spring or fall), but it will be more expensive during the peak summer months. You can check out the current rates on their web site here.
