Weddings in Myrtle Beach
Each year, hundreds of couples choose to tie the knot
in Myrtle Beach. Many brides and
grooms travel to the Grand Strand particularly for this reason while others
are locals that are enticed by the idea of getting married on or near the
beach rather than in a more traditional venue.
This beach town heartily welcomes couples who want to
hold their ceremony and/or reception here and there are plenty of venues
available to accommodate either. Generally, advance planning is necessary so
as to secure a marriage license and the proper permits that might be
required to use a particular venue. However, in some cases, couples can
schedule a fairly impromptu event.
Securing a
Marriage License
Couples most have a valid South Carolina
marriage license in order to marry within the borders of the state. To
obtain a license in Horry
County, where Myrtle Beach
is located, couples must go in person to one of three Government and
Justice
Center offices in the county. They
are located in Conway, Little
River, and Surfside
Beach. An application can be downloaded previous
to visiting one of the offices and filing it with the proper administrator.
Applications must be on file for at least 24 hours before the wedding can
occur. Fees are $50 for county residents, $75 for state residents, and $100
for those who live out of state but are subject to change.
Wedding Venues
?
The Beach – Non-commercial weddings are
permitted on the public beach throughout the city of
Myrtle Beach. There are also a few private portions
of the beach that extend to the high tide line where the city has no
jurisdiction over weddings. Consult the city authorities for more
information on specific locations.
?
Public Parks – Many of the public parks in
Myrtle Beach, both in commercial and residential
areas, require reservations and/or permits in order to hold a ceremony in
those locations. Shelter rental is available in some of the parks. Permits
may be denied if the wedding is deemed to potentially have a negative impact
on traffic or other concerns, especially in residential areas. Other park
guests cannot be asked to leave the park.
?
Churches and other places of worship – There
are literally dozens of places of worship that can accommodate weddings in
Myrtle Beach. Each has their own rules and
regulations, especially when it comes to accommodating non-members. Contact
the Chamber of Commerce for a list of houses of worship.
?
Wedding chapels – There are a handful of
wedding chapels in Myrtle Beach that are eager to accommodate both locals
and out-of-towners who wish to hold their weddings in this pretty beach
town.
o
Wedding Chapel by the Sea – This facility has
two pretty chapels and a fountain-side gazebo nestled among stately oak
trees. An onsite wedding coordinator helps arrange all the details. There’s
a small reception space available for small hors d’oeuvres parties after the
ceremony. Several affordable package options are available.
o
Myrtle Beach
Wedding Chapel – One of the first chapels in the area, this attractive
little chapel is not as ornate as some but offers very affordable package
options starting at just over $200. They also offer services outside of
their own chapel and are willing to travel to a resort, park, or other
location.
o
Together Forever Chapel – Dubbed a “chapel
for all faiths”, this facility has plenty of space for both the ceremony and
a reception of up to 75 people. A wedding planner coordinates all the needs
of the bride and groom and will also assist couples in setting up ceremonies
at locations away from the chapel. There’s
also an in-house bakery.
